Why Adult Diapers?

For adults, dealing with the need to use an adult diaper is not an easy task. Oftentimes, problems with bowel and urinary incontinence are kept within the members of the family only, cautious of them being the center of gossip. Also, it is hard to accept the fact that using adult diapers is the only way for you to deal with incontinence problems. As you accept this reality, the next problem that you will be facing are the rashes caused by diapers. Not all user experience diaper rash, but depending on the illness and hygiene routines, this problem could definitely occur. Rashes may occur most especially if the user stays in bed the whole day and there's no room for fresh air.

People who are required to wear adult diapers does not mean they have reach the olden age. Even at a young age, you may be required to use diapers because of urinary incontinence, bed wetting, urinary functions, fecal incontinence and leakage, all of which doesn't only affect the geriatric people. If you are wearing an adult diaper, it is important that you change frequently. Diapers can be very irritating and tight which causes the skin to sore. Of course, we won't abandon the fact the fecal and urine material are wastes that can lead to rashes. Changing the diaper after it is being soiled is very much recommended. However, due to some reasons such as disability to change without assistance, sleeping routines and budget, one cannot change every now and then. If this is the case, you should buy diapers that have stronger absorption materials. You can also apply hypoallergenic lotions on the infected skin as a treatment.

Tightness of the diapers can also be a culprit for skin rashes. Of course, diapers are not made of cotton. Sometimes they are made of rough and itchy materials that scratches the skin causing the irritation. If your diaper is not as comfortable as you want it to be, learn to adjust it properly. Give room for air. If the diaper is too tight, the heat of your body can aggravate the problem more. Urine is acidic in nature and it's not healthy to have it trapped in there for a long time. Rashes are not really a serious condition but, it is good to address the problem early on before it worsen. There are a lot of diaper rash treatments in the market and most of them are effective. Some ointments contain vitamin A and D which are good for fast healing. Others choose to apply dry cornstarch powder to help the rashes dry up quickly.

If you are taking care of someone wearing an adult diaper, check the food that you give to the client. There are some foods that can cause rashes on sensitive body areas. Also, if you are the helper, you have to be sensitive about this issue. Remember, this condition is associated with shame. Let your client feel that it is a normal condition and that they need not to feel bad about it. Show them that you care and cheer them up at times when they seem to have pity over themselves.

I don't feel sorry for myself for urine leakage, but I do stress over everyone assuming that only seniors or people with obvious disabilities have these problems. Thank you for not doing this!
